The One About A Rooibos Facial Scrub!

Did you know, used tea leaves are called Chagra? Chagra is essentially used tea leaves that have been dried after they are steeped. The  tea leaves retain many of the oils that make up the teas aroma, and many of the nutrients that spark its health benefits. Chagra can be used in a variety of ways; this week, we used our rooibos and hibiscus tea blend (Jigawa), to make some DIY facial scrubs. Jigawa doesn’t only make for the perfect hibiscus-infused rooibos drink, it also has really great exfoliating properties. Find our simple recipe below.

Ingredients
- 3 teaspoons of wet Jigawa tea leaves (this mask recipe does not require the tea leaves to be dried before use)
- 1.5 tablespoons of honey
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil (or your preferred essential oil)
- 1 tablespoon granulated brown sugar
- Half a lemon (about 1 tablespoon)
Creating The Mask
1. Mix the honey, coconut oil, and brown sugar in a bowl.
2. Squeeze the lemon juice into the bowl
3. Add the Jigawa leaves into the bowl
4. Mix ingredients
Applying the Mask
1. Start off with bare skin that is free of any lotion or makeup
2. Pat your face with a damp warm towel to open up your pores
3. We recommend applying the mask using two fingers, gently spreading the mixture around your face  in a slow, circular motion
4. Leave the mask on for up to (but no longer than) 15 minutes. If left for longer, the acidity of the lemon juice might become too harsh on the skin.
5. Rinse with warm water and pat face dry with a towel.
Thanks to the natural acids found in Hibiscus which help in purifying the skin, this recipe is fantastic for scrubbing away dead skin cells, leaving the skin bright and soft.
